American-Made Toy Soldiers

According to the Times Picayune (New Orleans LA), Le Petit Soldier shop is the second-oldest shop of its kind in the nation and one of just a handful left on this side of the Atlantic. The figures, which sell for between $35 and $80, are cast in customized molds at 1/32nd scale or metal 54 mm, and their craftsmanship hand painted by New Orleans artists.

The French Quarter's Little History shop maintains an extensive display of toy soldiers both antique and modern models that are hand painted by New Orleans artisans, in addition to exhibits of beautifully crafted battle scenes. The centerpiece of the store is the infamous Battle of New Orleans, completed with a landscape that includes the river. You can peruse through accouterments, coins, antique guns, medals, caps, and documents from battles as far back in history as the Revolutionary War and as recent as the World War II. Letters from Germans and Generals are accompanied with translations, Letters of Authenticity, and contracts initiating the sale of a group of slaves, and other interesting artifacts can make a trip to Le Petit Soldier Shop a timely excursion.
